Boardoza MIC2876 5V Synchronous Boost Converter Breakout Board
This project introduces a compact, high-efficiency boost converter module based on Microchip’s MIC2876. The device is a 2 MHz synchronous boost regulator with a 4.8 A switch-current rating; this is not the board’s continuous output-current rating. It operates from a 2.5 V to 5 V input range, providing stable output voltage for portable and USB-powered systems. With its bi-directional load disconnect and integrated protection features, the module ensures reliable operation and low standby power consumption.
Although it is expected to deliver higher output current, the small package size limits heat dissipation, causing overheating and thermal shutdown under heavy load. At 3.3 V input and 5 V output, the documented board-level continuous output is approximately 500 mA before temperature becomes critical; available current depends on cooling and ambient conditions.

Key Features
- Input voltage range: 2.5 V – 5 V.
- Up to 95% conversion efficiency.
- 2 MHz synchronous boost architecture.
- Bi-directional true load disconnect.
- Integrated anti-ringing switch for EMI reduction.
- Ultra-low shutdown current (\< 1 µA).
- Automatic bypass when VIN ≥ VOUT.
- Overcurrent and thermal protection circuits.
- Board continuous output: approximately 500 mA at 3.3 V input / 5 V output, thermally limited; 4.8 A is the IC switch-current rating
