Boardoza DCP3603 3.3V Synchronous Buck Regulator Breakout Board
The Boardoza DCP3603 3V3 R1.0 is a compact DC-DC buck converter breakout board designed to generate a regulated 3,3 V output from a higher DC input voltage. It is built around STMicroelectronics’ DCP3603, a wide-input synchronous step-down converter capable of driving up to 3 A load current at the IC level. The assembled board is limited to a maximum continuous output current of 1.8 A and a peak output current of 3 A because of thermal constraints. With an input operating range of 3.5 V to 36 V, the board is suitable for converting common industrial, battery, adapter, and 12/24 V bus supplies into a stable 3,3 V rail for embedded systems, sensors, communication modules, and development boards. The DCP3603 operates at fixed switching frequencies of 500 kHz or 1 MHz, allowing the use of compact external components and supporting a small overall board footprint.
Compared to basic linear regulators, the DCP3603-based design provides much higher efficiency when stepping down from higher input voltages, reducing heat generation and making it more suitable for applications where current demand is significant. The device includes important protection and reliability features such as soft-start, overcurrent protection, thermal shutdown, and output overvoltage protection. It also supports switching-frequency dithering to improve EMI behavior, which is valuable in systems containing RF modules, sensors, or noise-sensitive circuitry.
The Boardoza module improves ease of integration by exposing clearly labeled VIN, GND, EN, and VOUT connections. The board provides both connector-based input/output access and solder pad access, making it practical for prototyping as well as integration into custom hardware. The EN pin allows the converter to be enabled or disabled by a host controller (Default connected to VIN). Its clear silkscreen labeling, compact layout, onboard power indicator LED, and dedicated input/output connection areas make the Boardoza DCP3603 3V3 R1.0 a ready-to-use power module for engineers who need a robust 3,3 V rail from a wide input voltage source.
